“Come and See…two thousand years and the invitation hasn’t changed” |
|
For someone who’s never come to see the salvation of God… The Bible tells us the spiritual debt owed God can only be paid by an individual reaching the point Nathanial did in John chapter one. His brother had discovered the realty of God in the flesh; His name is Jesus the Christ. The Messiah had come, and the invitation by his brother, Andrew, was plain and simple. “Come and See”. Today the truth of the Bible remains. Every person is born with a sin debt that he owes God. It isn’t based upon performance but in inheritance. As a human being we are born with a dead spirit. According to the Bible, in Romans chapter three, verse twenty three, every person has missed the mark of perfection—(sinned) and as a result has fallen short of God’s perfections. That perfection is mandated for relationship and fellowship with God. This inherited condition isn’t hopeless but it is beyond our ability to remedy. The remedy is based upon the same invitation that Andrew said to his brother, “Come and See.” In Romans chapter six, verse twenty three, the Bible is very specific in outlining this remedy. While we’ve all earned a wage (the payment for our sins), God has given us an acceptable payment to allow each individual to reach that spiritual place of relationship with God. It is the gift of eternal life found only through Jesus the Christ. Jesus told a wise religious teacher who came inquiring about eternal life, “you must be born again…for flesh (physical birth) gives life physically but the spirit must be birthed by God’s Spirit.” Jesus has invited you to come to Him to accept His ‘redemption” (spiritual payment) as a gift. It is not earned but received. Something so vital and so valuable can only be attained by each individual. It is not earned or inherited; this gift of salvation can only be received by what the Bible calls repentance, confession, and faith. Repentance is simply admitting that you aren’t perfect and have missed the mark of perfection (sinned). It is your nature and practice to sin. Repentance is not just a recognition of your sin but a turning away from your sin. Confession is to tell God you’ve recognized your spiritual condition isn’t where it should be, because of your sin, and that you’ve come to the place you are desirous for the gift provided by Jesus Christ. Your confession is you believe – (not accepting the historical fact but the spiritual reality) Jesus is the payment not for just the sins of the world but for your spiritual shortcomings. Jesus said in the book of Revelation, “Behold, I stand at your heart’s door and I am knocking. If anyone hears me and will invite me inside, I will come in and abide with him.” Inviting Jesus into your heart is as simple as answering the door and inviting guests into your home. There is not ‘a’ prayer for a person to pray, but the confession of repentance and faith would be something like the following… Dear God, I know I am not perfect, and as one who isn’t, I’ve come to the place in my life I need an answer. I understand according to the Bible my spiritual condition isn’t acceptable to you and I am sorry for my actions and my nature. I desire to be in a living relationship with You. I need You in my life. I believe and accept Jesus as the gift given to pay my sin debt. I believe He died for me and this gift is mine to receive. I pray right now believing you hear men and will simply do what You’ve promised you would. Jesus, I need you in my heart and life. I open my heart’s door and invite you into my life. I say to you, “Please come in save me and take up residency in my heart!” If you’ve prayed this prayer for the first time in your life you need to contact a friend, a pastor, a church, or you may call on us. It is vital for you to know this simply fact…if you’ve done what the Bible said for you to do, you are indeed “born again’; you now have an assurance that God has kept His promise to you!
For someone whose “Come and See” has fallen away… In Psalms 66:5 David reminds those who’ve been born again, to “Come and See’ the works of God…” During times in our lives we need to be drawn back to the relationship that once held a vital place in our lives. Today the message of the Bible also applies to those whose Christian relationship isn’t where it was intended or used to be. God is seeking us and is desirous for you. He loves you, His love reached all the way from heaven to Calvary and then into your heart. Today won’t you “Come and See” the glorious works of God planned for you and your life? It is amazing in the last book of the Bible, Revelation, John sees into the very portals of eternal heaven and as the future unfolds before him there is a repeated command in chapter 6, “Come and See”…today wherever you find your spiritual walk, know God is waiting for you to “Come and See”…if we can be of assistance in helping you to come home to God and restoring your walk of faith please feel free to contact us today. |
